Why do we do it?

Abilympics is based on the belief that given the opportunity to compete at an international level people with disabilities will have increased confidence in their work skill capabilities and that this will enhance their subsequent employment potentials.

How do we do it?

Abilympics raises funds to support the selected competitors so that they can compete in the international competitions that are held in different countries every four years.

How are competitors selected for the International competitions?

Prior to each international competition Abilympics selects up to two competitors for each skill area where there are suitable applicants. If there are more than two suitable applicants for the same skill area than Abilympics arranges an appropriate work skills competition to select the best two applicants.

How does Abilympics get its funding?

Abilympics operates permanent Telemarketing and door-to-door fund-raising.

How much does it cost competitors?

There is an Abilympics WA annual subscription of $10.00.

Competitors are asked to pay their own registration with the International Association (normally approximately $250.00), to arrange their own passport and travel insurance costs, and they are also asked to contribute to or arrange fundraising towards their own fare.

Who is eligible to apply to be a competitor?

Any person with a disability who has a skill in the categories being offered for competition by the host country for that particular International Abilympics competition.

What support staff are there to assist?

The Australian Abilympics team provides for the support needs of the competitors. This usually includes a State registered nurse and several people who are available to assist with transferring of people with mobility disabilities. The amount of support provided depends upon the need of the competitors for that particular competition.

How can I make a donation?

Postal donations by cheque can be made payable to 'Abilympics West Australia Association Inc'.
